Pay with Time or Money!

Have you ever heard someone say — No! It’s too expensive. Can I have a discount?

You may have heard someone say these words or used them yourself.

Do you know what is interesting? We haven’t really given much thought to cost and why it is so important to measure it carefully.

There were times where I thought free things were very valuable. I no longer think this way.

There is always a cost to good things — if you are no the one paying then someone else is.

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO KNOW HOW YOU SHOULD PAY?

Cost differentiates people, depending on what you are willing to pay for — you fall in a certain class. I am sure we all know we belong to some sort of class. Have you ever walked past a Gucci shop?

I have — I was in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia, KLCC Mall).

That moment when you are even shy to walk in because the mere setting of the place speaks of a certain class.

Those that enter are willing to pay certain prices — you quickly find your level.

You have to admire those guys, so much can be said about them. They are simply to be admired.

Costs also differentiate levels of confidence — I am sure you have seen the atmosphere surrounding a person who has more than enough to spare. They are willing to take the bill everyone is avoiding after an expensive dinner.

When the waiter brings the bill they are the ones left with a smile and still looking to hang out more.

We all want to be like these people, we are actually actively trying but something is amiss.

THERE IS A COST, A PRICE YOU HAVE TO PAY TO GET THERE.

I used to watch the boondocks and one of the young stars said something interesting: “Wait a minute so I should study finish college then work till I die?” Lol…I get the point.

When we were young we were told a lot of fables – and one of those was that life was in a straight line. You get good grades, get a good job and life works out just fine.

Well, it is not exactly the case.

When you are doing a lot of things that are not amounting to what you were promised when you were young — then its time to do some thinking.

A lot of us spend a lot of time worrying about costs (money/time), whether its job loss, government shutdown, rising costs of living.

There are essentially two ways you can really pay for what you want.

YOU CAN EITHER PAY IN AMOUNTS OF TIME

There is a cost of time, do you ever wonder why you say — I am going to spend time with someone?

This is because time is a limited resource and time can be spent in return for value — (for example some people work and are paid for their time, and others use their time to make valuable innovations).

I was once young and silly so I could spend days’ binge-watching series on TV or NBA all day long. I no longer behave like this because now that I am more than 30 years I know that my time can be exchanged for value.

When I look at older people, my parents and where they are I am tempted to ask them.

What would they have done if they were given a reset of 20 years? With that mentality, I can no longer SPEND the time I don’t have.

You say how can you spend the time you don’t have?

Let’s think about it together — in order to hit your full potential all your seconds and minutes matter. If we say you are working on your vision 15hrs a day and sleeping the rest of your time that would be 9 hours of sleep.

Hey, I am really being lenient here — most successful people sleep 4-5 hours.

Okay, so if you need that kind of input say 5 days a week to hit your full potential before you die — this would mean if you are doing any less you are in debt — you now need 30 hours tomorrow to achieve what you should have done yesterday and today.

If you push to tomorrow what you should have done today, then you are spending the time you don’t have because in the end, your time is limited.

If it was 40ys now you need 40yrs and 15hrs — Haha.

Seems to me like this is very costly and we can’t afford it.

OR YOU CAN PAY IN TERMS OF MONEY

Now when we think money some of us have misconceptions about what I may be meaning here.

When you use your time well you accumulate valuable experience. Over time your wisdom can be used to accomplish a lot of things.

In order to quantify or measure this wisdom that you got we put a figure to it.

That is what money represents, it is a measure of value. The more valuable you are the more your time costs.

This is the interesting part here: if you are like some of us who have debt on time we are not able to pay for in time but were have some money — we can exchange the money for someone’s experience in order to redeem the time.

Let me give you an example since you did not do a degree in medicine — if you want to be treated you go and pay a doctor.

I mean you could go to University and study it yourself but I don’t think that is such a good idea.

Actually, there is no such thing as free, EVERYTHING COSTS SOMETHING.

Since some of us do not understand these two concepts we are trading one for the other. Instead of paying money to redeem the time we are doing the opposite and a result we won’t live a fulfilled life.

NOWHERE IS THE CATCH:

Some of us have a burden for financial freedom. In simple terms, you need more money to live the kind of life you want.

Do you know that feeling you get whenever you need/ want something — you are quickly reminded that you are working out of lack?

You have a lack of mentality. Its never enough, you are looking at how much will be left when you take this decision.

It’s like every time you pull out your wallet, it is kinda  laughing at you — telling you how much you don’t have LOL

How about this, have you felt so bad when you can’t support the people you love? You honestly want to give 20$. It is not a lot of money by any standard but you don’t have it. The feeling of helplessness is paralyzing.

There was a time my mother was due for an operation; she couldn’t go because there was no money at home. My father was jobless and we were still so young to contribute much. She had to wait until the situation became worse. I was working but could only afford 150$ out of the load that was needed.

This is heartbreaking!

WHAT IF THERE WAS A WAY OUT OF THIS CIRCLE?

OR YOU CAN SPEND MORE TIME GOING THE SAME DIRECTION AND NOT GETTING ANYWHERE IN THE TIME YOU WANT TO.

It takes years of practice, failing and perfection to come up with some of these SYSTEMS.
